The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, announced that Arab countries are facing pressures from Western nations to reject the Russian military operation in Ukraine and to contain Russia. In statements to "Sada Elbalad," Aboul Gheit mentioned that "the West has realized the mistakes of their actions in the region after millions of refugees crossed over, and the current international and regional situation is extremely sensitive."
He added that "Arab countries are under pressure from the Western world to reject the Russian stance or to encircle Russia, as Western governments have interests in the region." He pointed out that "India, Brazil, Mexico, and Africa have independent policies, with some countries refusing to vote on the Russian position regarding Ukraine based on their interests in the area."
He noted that "Arab countries will not weaken under the pressures they face, and the meeting of the foreign ministers of Egypt, Iraq, Algeria, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan aims to address the context that reflects the will of the Arabs."
He continued, stating that "when global food prices double, the war must stop, and there is a unified Arab position and collective action regarding the Russian-Ukrainian crisis." He added: "I hope that Arab governments succeed in preserving and maintaining their national security, and it is essential not to allow armed confrontation to have negative effects on stability in the region."
