The sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un unleashed harsh insults against the South Korean Defense Minister following his comments attacking the northern regime. Kim Yo Jong referred to the South Korean Defense Minister Suh Wook as "a man resembling scum" for speaking about his country's readiness to strike North Korea, according to Politico.
During a visit to the country's strategic missile command on Friday, Minister Suh stated that South Korea has the ability and readiness to carry out precise strikes on North Korea if it detects an impending missile launch from Pyongyang.
In a scathing address directed at Suh, Kim Yo Jong issued threats towards Seoul. She stated in a government media-reported statement: "The meaningless man who resembles scum dares to mention a preemptive strike on a nuclear-armed state... South Korea may face a serious threat due to the reckless remarks made by its Defense Minister."
She continued her threats: "South Korea must restrain itself if it wants to avoid disaster." Kim Yo Jong is a prominent official in North Korea's ruling Workers' Party and is responsible for relations with Seoul and Washington. South Korea's intelligence service has indicated that Kim is the second most powerful figure in North Korea after her brother.
Her statement came amid escalating tensions between the two rival Koreas over a series of weapons tests in North Korea this year, including the first intercontinental ballistic missile test in over four years. Experts analyzed that her statement could indicate that North Korea will conduct more significant weapons tests soon and adopt a hardline stance toward South Korea.
