Dangerous Fish Appears in the Red Sea and Authorities Clarify

The newspaper "Al-Watan" reported, citing a source from the Red Sea Environmental Affairs Authority, about the danger level of the "barracuda" fish following the circulation of pictures by divers and social media users showing the fish in the sea. After questions arose regarding the danger posed by this fish and whether its presence in the Red Sea should be a cause for concern, Al-Watan quoted the environmental authority source stating: "The appearance of the barracuda in the Red Sea is normal, especially since it is one of the species native to the waters of the Red Sea and does not pose any danger. The speculation regarding it being the most dangerous and ferocious creates unnecessary panic."

The source added that divers in the Red Sea organize diving trips to see barracudas and sharks in the areas of the Brothers and the Emerald. The source pointed out that "experts know well that the Red Sea waters contain around 1,144 species of fish, of which 14% are considered endemic to the Red Sea environment, including barracuda and shark species."

It was emphasized that "the barracuda is not large in size, possesses sharp teeth, and feeds on smaller fish." The source confirmed that "no incidents have been reported of divers being attacked by barracudas, so the claims that they are the most dangerous create unnecessary discussions and confusion." The source stressed that "divers are more knowledgeable about the nature of the barracuda, and some organize special trips to see these fish as they are endemic to the Red Sea environment, related to the formation of the Red Sea itself."

Additionally, it highlighted the importance of adhering to safe diving rules to observe fish, particularly with barracudas and sharks, and in general in the waters of the Red Sea.
