Lions Devour 3 Children, Leaving Only Their Skulls

Lions attacked a number of children in a reserve in northern Tanzania, consuming three of them while a fourth survived with injuries. The lions ate the children's flesh and left only their skulls. Tanzanian police reported that the children, aged between 9 and 11, were looking for lost animals after returning from school when they ventured into a forest near the "Ngorongoro" reserve and were attacked by several lions. Justin Masego, the head of Arusha police, stated that the lions pounced on the three children and injured another one. Masego urged local communities to "exercise caution around predators, especially when children are asked to tend to livestock." Tanzania allows herders to live in national parks and to let their cattle graze alongside wildlife, leading to frequent incidents between humans and animals, particularly elephants and lions that often attack residents, livestock, and crops.
