Historic Event at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Saturday the implementation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations matches, which will kick off in Morocco later today. CAF stated in a press release on its official website that the Women's Africa Cup of Nations "will indeed be a pioneer in everything, as it will witness for the first time the use of video technology in all 28 matches."

It added: "This is a bold step in the right direction... As women's football grows in Africa, it is important to adopt the latest trends and technology to enhance the game." The statement continued: "We have some of the best referees in Africa in Morocco, and training and developing them is crucial for us."

It concluded: "The use of video technology in all CAF tournaments has been a priority for Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the president of CAF, since he took office last year." The Women's Africa Cup of Nations will kick off later today with a match between Morocco and Burkina Faso at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
