A ceasefire agreement has been signed between the Masalit tribe and the Arab tribes in West Darfur at the government's secretariat in Geneina, in the presence of members of the federal delegation addressing the events in Geneina, local leadership, and community figures.
The Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reported that Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahim Daglo, a member of the federal delegation addressing the events in Geneina and Deputy Leader of the Rapid Support Forces, confirmed that the agreement is a culmination of efforts made by the delegation led by Sovereign Council member, Mohamed Al-Faki Suleiman, and underscores the social components' commitment in West Darfur to close the chapter on the past and look toward the future with forgiving hearts and a love for peace. The Sudanese agency noted that Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahim Daglo signed the ceasefire agreement as a guarantor of the agreement and representative of the Sudanese government. Daglo praised the role of Sultan Saad Abdul Rahman Bahar al-Din, the Sultan of the Masalit Kingdom, who remained impartial during the events in Geneina, which helped contain the situation, stressing that the agreement is binding for all parties. The member of the Sudanese Sovereign Council also indicated that the state has sent joint forces to West Darfur to support security and stability, affirming his commitment to monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
For his part, Sultan Saad Abdul Rahman Bahar al-Din commended the state leadership's attention to the events in Geneina, noting that the visit of the federal delegation led by Transitional Sovereign Council member Al-Faki Suleiman had a positive impact on those affected by the events. Bahar al-Din called for the necessity of combating criminals and lawbreakers and enforcing the authority of the state until peace and stability prevail throughout the localities of West Darfur. Prince Hafiz Taj al-Din, representing the Arab tribes, emphasized the importance of not confusing social issues with political ones, pointing out that West Darfur is a cohesive and interconnected community, and that criminals and instigators do not wish for stability for the people of Geneina, urging that they should be dealt with according to the law.
