Prepare for More Electricity Rationing Starting Tomorrow!

The Electricity Authority of Lebanon announced in a statement following its previous one on the 18th of this month, that "the supply of gas oil will completely run out at the Deir Ammar plant, the only thermal plant remaining on the grid, which will consequently lead to its forced outage tomorrow morning. Thus, only the production from hydraulic plants will remain on the grid, not exceeding 100 megawatts. It was expected that the vessel ‘SEALION I’, loaded with gas oil, would arrive in Lebanese territorial waters on Friday, 20/05/2022. However, according to the latest information from the Ministry of Energy and Water - General Directorate of Oil, the arrival of the concerned vessel will be delayed until 25/05/2022." The statement further noted that "the electrical energy generated from our production plants relies solely on the quantities of fuels supplied by the Ministry of Energy and Water - General Directorate of Oil, under an exchange agreement between the Republic of Iraq and the Republic of Lebanon, whereby the monthly shipment does not exceed approximately 40,000± 10% metric tons at maximum, amid rising global crude oil prices. Power supply will gradually return to what it was, approximately 450 megawatts, as soon as the gas oil supply is replenished, following laboratory tests on the concerned vessel at ‘Bureau Veritas’ laboratories in Dubai, and completion of all technical and administrative procedures to unload its entire cargo."
