American billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk said on Wednesday that he "will buy Manchester United." On his Twitter account, Musk tweeted: "To be clear, I support the left half of the Republican Party and the right half of the Democratic Party!" He added, "Also, I will buy Manchester United… welcome."
Musk's statements created a significant stir on social media, especially following the severe defeat suffered by the "Red Devils," as many fans expressed their anger over this result and dissatisfaction with the club. Manchester United supporters have protested against the team's management for poor performance in recent years, as well as their involvement in a plan to start a new "Super League" for the wealthiest teams in Europe.
After consecutive losses in the Premier League this season, including a humiliating 0-4 defeat last weekend at Brentford, Manchester United currently sits at the bottom of the league standings, marking the first time they have been in this position in 30 years. Further protests against the ownership of the Glazer family, who own the club, are planned ahead of United's next home game against Liverpool on August 22, according to France Presse.
However, Musk's tweet did not give hope to "United" fans; when asked on Twitter if he was serious about buying the club, he replied: "No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter... I am not buying any sports teams."
