The Egyptian Football Association announced on Tuesday the appointment of Pyramids FC coach Ihab Darwich as the new manager of the "Pharaohs" team, succeeding Portuguese Carlos Queiroz. The federation issued a statement announcing Darwich's appointment "after discussing the national team's file and mutually terminating Queiroz's contract."
Members of the board resorted to a vote to determine the identity of the new coach, whether Egyptian or foreign. After agreeing to appoint a local coach, the choice was narrowed down to several candidates, prominent among them were Darwich and Hossam Hassan.
The federation members agreed to retain Essam El-Hadary in his role as goalkeeper coach, and Mohammad Shawky as the assistant coach, while deciding to part ways with Diaa El-Sayed, who was an assistant to Queiroz.
Darwich has led several Egyptian teams in recent years, including Zamalek, Misr Lel Makkasa, Ismaily, Enppi, and Al-Masry, and is currently the coach of Pyramids FC. According to the international calendar, Darwich's next challenge will be to compete in the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to be held in Ivory Coast from June 14 to July 14. The draw for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers will take place on April 19 in South Africa, with the qualifiers starting on May 30.
