An Israeli cybersecurity company published research revealing that a group affiliated with Hezbollah has infiltrated the systems and databases of hundreds of companies worldwide.
The Israeli website "i24" reported today that the cybersecurity firm "Clearsky" disclosed that the hacker group known as "Lebanese Cedar," connected to Hezbollah, successfully hacked the systems and databases of hundreds of telecom, internet, and infrastructure companies globally. The report stated that the Lebanese Cedar group hacked the systems and databases of these companies, including those in Israel, aiming to gather intelligence and steal corporate databases.
According to the research conducted by the Israeli company, the hackers managed to obtain a significant amount of information through these cyber attacks, including sensitive data about customers, their phone calls, and locations. The research noted that among the targeted companies were "Vodafone" in Egypt, "Frontier Communications" in the United States, "Saudi Net" in Saudi Arabia, "Vitel" in Jordan, "Etisalat" in the United Arab Emirates, and "Hadara" in the West Bank, while the report did not mention the names of the Israeli companies that were hacked. The company pointed out that the group's activity was discovered in 2015, but since then, they have managed to operate secretly and partially conceal their activities.
