Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimović, playing for Italian club AC Milan, advised French star Kylian Mbappé of Paris Saint-Germain to transfer to Real Madrid, despite "the Sultan" having played for rival Barcelona from 2009 to 2011. Ibrahimović told French newspaper "L'Équipe": "One day, Mbappé asked me, and I replied: If I were in your place, I would go to Real Madrid." Following the impending expiration of Mbappé's contract next summer, Paris Saint-Germain hopes to retain the young player by negotiating a new deal, aiming to block Real Madrid, which is eager to sign him. Since the start of his career in 2015, Mbappé has only played in Ligue 1, starting with Monaco before moving to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, where he has achieved numerous successes while seeking to win the UEFA Champions League alongside Argentine Lionel Messi and Brazilian Neymar.
