It seems that the waste crisis in the city of Sidon, which resurfaces from time to time, is worsening as piles of garbage accumulate in containers and along the sides of streets and neighborhoods. This is due to the contracted company ceasing collection because of the lack of diesel fuel for its vehicles, exacerbating the suffering of citizens who are already facing ongoing economic crises. The crisis of garbage spreading in the streets is particularly burdening, especially with rising temperatures, foul odors, and the diseases they cause, particularly with the ongoing power cuts and restrictions on electricity subscriptions.
The situation is further aggravated by the strike of workers at the solid waste treatment plant in Siniq, who have stopped working for nearly two weeks to demand payment of their dues and an increase before they began to lift the strike today after receiving part of their entitlements.
At the same time, towns in East Sidon are experiencing the same crisis, especially since the Sidon-Zahrani Municipal Union had requested these municipalities to find a place within their borders to bury the waste residues resulting from their garbage.
Citizens in Sidon are complaining about the accumulation of garbage in their streets and neighborhoods, urging the relevant authorities to work on finding a solution to this problem as soon as possible.
