Mediterranean Games Results: Italy Leads, Algeria Tops Arab Nations

Italy won the 19th Mediterranean Games, which concluded today in Oran, Algeria, finishing ahead of Turkey, France, and Algeria. Before the finals of the women's and men's handball competitions, scheduled for Wednesday at the end of the games, Italy amassed a total of 159 medals, including 48 gold, 50 silver, and 61 bronze, which is 8 golds fewer than in the previous edition.

Turkey, which topped the medal table until last Sunday, secured second place with a total of 108 medals (45 gold, 26 silver, and 37 bronze), achieving one more gold than in the last games. France came in third with 21 gold, 24 silver, and 36 bronze medals, totaling 81.

In a historic performance, Algeria placed fourth with 53 medals, including 20 gold, 17 silver, and 16 bronze. Algeria's best performance in the Mediterranean Games was in 2001 in Tunisia, where it won 32 medals, including 10 golds.

Spain, the runner-up in the previous games, fell to fifth place with 64 total medals, including 14 gold. Egypt followed in sixth place with 50 medals, including 13 gold, awaiting the final result of the men's handball match against Spain.

Tunisia ranked tenth with 27 medals, including 6 gold, 8 silver, and 13 bronze. Among other Arab countries, Syria sits in fourteenth place with 7 medals, including 4 gold and 3 silver. Morocco follows closely in fifteenth place with a total of 33 medals, including 3 gold, 13 silver, and 17 bronze. Libya holds the twenty-fourth position with a bronze medal, while Lebanon did not win any medals.
