Ministry of Environment Warns of Fire Outbreak Risks

The Ministry of Environment wants to remind all stakeholders and citizens of the importance and necessity of raising awareness about the significant increase in the fire outbreak risk index across the country today and in the coming weeks. According to the Firelab system affiliated with the University of Balamand, relatively vast areas in Akkar, the North, Bekaa, Mount Lebanon, and South Lebanon have been classified as having a high risk of fire outbreaks and spread.

In addition to the favorable conditions for fire spread, such as dry weather indicators and plant cover, burning agricultural waste and using any source of fire increases the risk of catastrophic fires that can be difficult to control.

Therefore, as part of the efforts to combat the wildfire season, the Ministry of Environment urges everyone to be vigilant about the risk of fire outbreaks and to immediately report any fire hazards to local authorities and the police responsible for enforcing laws, particularly the forestry law, which prohibits lighting fires in all areas of Lebanon that have forests, grasses, or flammable natural reserves during the fire season. This is to prevent fire outbreaks and protect the safety and lives of citizens and their property, as well as to avoid any environmental losses to Lebanon's natural resources.
