What Wine Does to Women

Russian endocrinologist and nutritionist Dr. Oksana Mikhailova revealed the dangers of wine consumption for women. The specialist notes that some women may have adverse reactions, such as redness of the skin on the face, neck, and hands, which may be accompanied by itching; some of them may also experience migraines in this case. This sensitivity is attributed to substances in wine, such as histamine and tyramine, especially in red wine.

She adds that wine, like other alcoholic beverages, contains high calories. She explains: "One gram of ethanol provides 7 calories. Moreover, drinking wine is typically accompanied by consuming appetizers and various foods, which in turn also contain calories, such as cheese, chocolate, meat, and nuts. Additionally, alcohol stimulates appetite; therefore, a person may consume more food while drinking alcohol, leading to weight gain, particularly in women (for men, beer plays a similar negative role)."

She continues: "Another problem that is particularly common among women is alcohol addiction. If a woman drinks alcohol to improve her mood as an antidepressant or out of boredom, it can lead to addiction later on, making it difficult for her to enjoy a dinner without wine, as she no longer finds pleasure in food or improves her mood." Furthermore, alcohol negatively impacts the skin, especially facial skin, which becomes dry, prone to redness, and damaged, with dilated blood vessels causing persistent facial redness, especially in the cheeks. These are irreversible consequences.
