Title: Interior Minister Suspends Mechanical Inspections Until Further Notice

The Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, has signed a decision to suspend mechanical inspections until further notice. Mawlawi requested the Road Traffic and Vehicles Management Authority to collect the annual traffic fees without requiring vehicle owners to present a certificate from the accredited institution proving that the vehicle has undergone the periodic mechanical inspection. The Minister referred the company "Val" that operates the mechanical inspection centers to the Public Prosecution for charging 120,000 Lebanese Lira for each inspection without any legal justification.
