Liverpool's injury fears have eased ahead of the Champions League final against Real Madrid, scheduled in Paris today, as midfielders Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara have returned to team training. Alcantara was a major concern for Liverpool's manager Jurgen Klopp after the Spanish international left the field injured during the first half of the team's 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton last Sunday in the final round of the Premier League. Alcantara participated in a brief training session at Stade de France yesterday, after returning to training on Thursday.
It seems that Fabinho, another midfielder, has recovered from a hamstring injury he sustained on May 10, which forced him to miss the FA Cup final and Liverpool’s last two league matches. Klopp stated that things "look good" for both midfielders.
In contrast, the opponent in the crucial match, Real Madrid, appears more prepared, especially after claiming the La Liga title nearly a month ago. Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of the royal club, was able to rest his key players in the last four rounds of the La Liga season, and there have been no major injuries bothering him within the team.
It is noteworthy that today’s match marks the third encounter between Liverpool and Real Madrid in the Champions League final, with Liverpool winning the final in 1981 and Real Madrid claiming victory in 2018. This was the last title of 13 for Madrid, a record. If Liverpool wins against Real Madrid today, they will secure their seventh title in the continental competition, tying with Italian club AC Milan for second place among title holders.
