Real Madrid overcame a significant hurdle in their quest to reclaim the La Liga title this season, coming from behind to defeat Sevilla 3-2 on Sunday in a thrilling match during the 32nd round of the competition. The victory allowed Real Madrid, aiming to regain the title they lost last season to city rivals Atletico Madrid, to strengthen their position at the top of the table, increasing their points to 75, a 15-point lead over their nearest competitors, traditional rival Barcelona, who have played two fewer matches than the white team.
On the other hand, Sevilla's tally, which has only seen one win in their last six matches, remains at 60 points in fourth place.
The experienced Croatian star Ivan Rakitić opened the scoring for Sevilla in the 21st minute, followed by his Argentine teammate Erik Lamela doubling the lead in the 25th minute.
Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti's substitutions made a significant difference for the royal team in the second half, where the guests equalized thanks to goals from substitutes Rodrygo and Nacho Fernandez in the 50th and 83rd minutes respectively.
Just as everyone prepared for the match to end in a draw, French star Karim Benzema gifted Real Madrid all three points by scoring the third goal for the visiting team in the second minute of stoppage time, assisted by Rodrygo.
