A woman and a child have died, and another child has been injured after rain floods swept away the vehicle they were in on a highland in the Al-Jaashan area of the Al-Dhahya district in southern Ibb governorate, central Yemen. Local and media sources reported that the floods carried away a sedan that was transporting several women and children, resulting in the deaths of a woman and a child in Al-Jaashan.
The deceased woman was identified as the wife of citizen Mohammed Hazaa Qasim Iskandar, and the other child, aged 10, was her niece. The deceased woman's son was also injured in the incident. According to sources, the heavy floods swept away the vehicle, which was passing through a road that runs through the middle of the Al-Jaashan waterway, although locals managed to rescue the remaining passengers on board.
The sources indicated that attempts to rescue the woman and the child from the floods were unsuccessful before their bodies were found lifeless. Activists shared videos showing the screams and cries of a group of women after being rescued from drowning in the incident.
The videos have sparked outrage and anger over the driver's recklessness and the lack of precautionary measures, as well as the absence of a bridge in the area to prevent similar accidents. This incident comes amid heavy rains affecting several Yemeni governorates, causing significant human and material losses.
