"Thefts: 'Not on Your Mind, Not in Your Thoughts'... So Be Careful!"

Nothing about what we are experiencing today in Lebanon is "normal." Even the Lebanese are on the verge of madness in every sense of the word, due to the misfortunes they have faced in recent years. The severe living crisis has led to new manifestations that we are not accustomed to in Lebanon, particularly thefts that have a lot of "creativity" involved, catching many off guard lately due to their strangeness. Therefore, it is important to be cautious and alert to what you might encounter on the roads.

Some theft tricks involve throwing eggs at a car's windshield to confuse the driver and push them to exit the vehicle, making them an easy target for theft. Other tricks include throwing stones at the car to break the window and force the driver to exit as well, or even staging a collision for the same purpose. Often, the tool used is a bike with two people, with the second person driving the car once the plan succeeds.

The methods are numerous and evolving, hence a security source advises, via mtv, to make it difficult for thieves. In other words, do not make yourself an easy target for them. For example, you should lock your car before driving off and ensure not to leave visible items inside, such as a phone, laptop, or bag. You should also avoid being distracted by texting on your phone while walking on the street, as this makes you an easy prey for theft.

The security source also advises against placing your phone or bag on the front seat next to the driver; instead, put them on the floor to avoid pickpocketing through the window. Additionally, avoid carrying large sums of money, important documents, or a passport in your bag to prevent catastrophic results if you are robbed.

Most importantly, if you take a taxi, ensure it is licensed and not an ordinary plate, and do not sit near the driver to avoid being threatened with a knife or similar danger.

For those worried about their cars being stolen, it is advised to park them in areas close to homes where theft is difficult, and ensure to equip them with an immobilizer or a hidden button to cut off electricity, making theft virtually impossible.

So, be careful and follow these measures, because what you have is enough for you. Otherwise, if you become a victim, just call 112 and head to the nearest police station.
