The Mystery of COVID-19 Infections: Only 13 Cases in China While Thousands Elsewhere

One of the ongoing "COVID" oddities for over a year is that China, where the virus emerged in December 2019, is among the least afflicted countries so far. There have been no deaths reported in the past days in the world's most populous country, according to data from "worldometer," which provides global statistics updated hourly, particularly about "COVID." On the infection side, there were only 9 cases reported on Saturday in China and 13 today (Sunday), with no deaths, despite its population exceeding 1.4 billion.

In contrast, Brazil reported 2,986 deaths in one day and 70,105 new infections on the same day. In India, which received over 80 million tons of liquid oxygen from Saudi Arabia in the past two days to help combat the outbreak, COVID-19 struck harder, resulting in 2,761 deaths and 349,313 new cases in one day, as indicated in a table published on the site.

Today’s "worldometer" also indicates that Bahrain, home to the smallest number of residents among Arab countries (not exceeding 1.7 million), has recorded over 170,000 infections, while the total infections over a period of one year and five months in China are only 90,588. China has only 4 patients in critical condition in hospitals, according to another table published by "Al Arabiya," while Oman recorded over 188,000 infections, with 266 in critical care.

As for China’s death toll, which stands at only 4,636, this contrasts sharply with Lebanon, which has reported 7,118 COVID-related deaths and 519,615 infections among its less than 7 million population, including 671 critical cases—more than double those in China. Is the country where "COVID" originated concealing the true number of its casualties and infections? Or is there a mystery in China that we still do not understand?
