Salah Faces the Danger of "Wijnaldum's Mistake"

Salah Faces the Danger of

Mohamed Salah's contract with Liverpool enters its final 18 months, with negotiations for a new contract stalling regarding the Egyptian player's continued stay at Anfield. Salah's contract expires in the summer of 2023, and reports suggest that the Egyptian is requesting to double his current salary to renew. The British newspaper "Mirror" confirmed that Liverpool needs to make a final decision about Salah's future, whether to renew or sell.

It pointed out that Liverpool may face criticism for delaying the resolution of Salah's situation, especially considering his current form and increased goal tally. However, the newspaper warned of a potential mistake Salah might make, referencing his former teammate, Dutch player Georginio Wijnaldum, who, as he approached his 30th birthday, acknowledged alongside his representatives that this was a sign of entering the twilight of a player's career. Consequently, the Dutchman chose to demand a higher salary from the Reds, who did not meet his demands.

The paper noted that a few months after the failed contract negotiations between Wijnaldum and Liverpool, the Dutch player found himself at Paris Saint-Germain earning the salary he requested. It added that since joining Mauricio Pochettino's team, the Dutch player has only played the full 90 minutes in five matches.

However, it emphasized that it would be difficult for Salah to become a bench player if he transferred to any club, but he would face challenges in finding a place that meets his demands. Due to financial crises affecting most major clubs in Europe, Salah may not have many options for clubs that can afford him, possibly facing choices limited to Manchester City and PSG.

The newspaper stated that if Salah were to move to City, he would destroy all the memories he worked hard for at Liverpool, while joining PSG in a less competitive French league might suffocate him, especially as the team is star-studded.

The English paper concluded its report by stating that what happened with Wijnaldum should serve as a stark warning to Salah for the next time he sits down for negotiations with Liverpool.
