Saudi-Iranian Meeting on the Sidelines of the UN General Assembly

His Excellency, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Muallimi, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, participated today in the event "Follow-up to the Ministerial Meeting of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership," held on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, organized by the Permanent Mission of Iraq to the United Nations.

The event was chaired by His Excellency Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein, with the participation of the Foreign Ministers of France, Jordan, Kuwait, and Iran.

In a speech delivered during the event, Ambassador Al-Muallimi reaffirmed the Kingdom's commitment to supporting the Iraqi government led by Mr. Mustafa Al-Kadhimi and emphasized the importance of Iraq's role in confronting unlawful terrorist militias. He expressed the Kingdom's readiness to support any initiative aimed at achieving cooperation and peace in the region based on mutual respect among states, reiterating the Kingdom's rejection of interference in the internal affairs of countries or threats to their security and stability.

Ambassador Al-Muallimi pointed out that holding such meetings for the exchange of views is an important tool for establishing the foundations of understanding and dialogue and setting a roadmap for the future of collective cooperation among the countries of the region. He reiterated the Kingdom's commitment to working with the brothers in the Republic of Iraq to achieve stability and development, and to support the efforts made by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to achieve stability and security in Iraq.

He stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has launched a number of initiatives aimed at strengthening ties and cooperation among the countries of the region, covering all political, economic, social, and environmental aspects. The Kingdom believes that these initiatives will help reduce tensions and conflicts in the region and achieve a degree of peace and cooperation.

He stressed that the Kingdom will be at the forefront of countries supporting any initiative aimed at achieving cooperation and peace in the region based on mutual respect, expressing the Kingdom's confidence in the wisdom and acumen of the leadership in the brotherly Republic of Iraq and its determination, with God's will, to contribute to Iraq's renaissance, prosperity, and reconciliation among its diverse groups.

The event was attended on the Saudi delegation's side by the head of the Fourth Committee, Minister Plenipotentiary Wajdi Hasan Muharram.
