Biden Calls for Ban on Sale of Assault Rifles to Individuals

U.S. President Joe Biden has called for a "ban" on the sale of assault rifles to individuals, in a televised speech delivered nine days after a horrific massacre that claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers at a school in Texas, according to the Agence France-Presse.

The president asked, "How many more massacres must we endure?" emphasizing the need to raise the minimum age for purchasing these weapons, currently set at 18 years, to 21 years.

Biden condemned the refusal of the majority of Republican senators to adopt stricter gun laws in the United States, describing it as "unacceptable." In his address to the nation, he stated, "It's time for the Senate to take action," adding that lawmakers "cannot fail the American people again."

Yesterday, five people were injured in a shooting at a cemetery in Wisconsin while mourning a man killed by police at the end of May, according to law enforcement and a local channel.

This incident occurred the day after a shooting at a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that left four people dead, and just less than ten days after the massacre in Uvalde, Texas. Since the Uvalde shooting, there have been more than twenty incidents of gunfire that resulted in numerous casualties in the United States, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
