A recent medical study has sounded the alarm regarding hair loss, especially among women, highlighting the phenomenon of significant hair shedding and pointing out that losing more than about 100 hairs a day can lead to gradual thinning of the scalp. The study mentioned that permanent hair loss can cause distress, but there are several natural treatments that have shown promising results in stimulating hair growth.
It revealed a close association between hair loss and vitamin D, which plays an important role in dermatology and skin treatments due to its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to modify immune responses, as well as regulate the differentiation and proliferation of keratinocytes. The study found that vitamin D is "complexly involved" in various signaling pathways for hair follicle growth and differentiation, according to the British newspaper "Daily Express."
Another study published in the Wiley Online Library noted that vitamin D deficiency is associated with several hair loss disorders, such as alopecia areata and female hair loss. The study states: "Our study showed a significant association between vitamin D deficiency and the severity of hereditary baldness. This suggests that vitamin D may play a role in the early onset of androgenetic alopecia."
It continued: "However, further studies are needed involving larger populations and the impact of vitamin D supplements on the progression of hereditary baldness to validate the stated results." The Cleveland Clinic states that vitamin D deficiency can have several signs and symptoms, which may include fatigue, bone pain, muscle weakness, and mood changes, such as depression.
