"Lebanon Again" in Canada… and Immigration Continues

MTV reported that the rate of immigration has increased in recent years as the collapse of the state has accelerated, leaving Lebanese citizens with no choice but to flee to a safe place that ensures continuity, stability, and peace of mind for themselves and their families. Canada remains the primary refuge for Lebanese immigrants throughout history, especially in times of rapid state breakdown. According to numbers from the Canadian embassy in Beirut, between 200,000 and 400,000 Lebanese live in Canada, and approximately 4,395 new Lebanese immigrants joined them between 2019 and 2021. Over the three years from 2019 to 2021, Canada welcomed 2,285 new permanent residents from Lebanon in the economic class and 2,110 in the family category. During the same period, Canada resettled 7,231 refugees from Lebanon. Additionally, Canada contributes to developmental assistance for the World Food Program and supports the National Program for Combating Poverty (PNCP), which allows 4,700 Lebanese families facing food insecurity to receive a monthly cash allowance to purchase food items. Canada's support for the security and social stability of Lebanon includes projects aimed at reducing tensions between displaced individuals and the host communities experiencing pressure. Finally, new numbers reveal the extent of the emigration wave affecting the country due to the ongoing crisis, but no matter how severe this crisis becomes, the country's citizens will inevitably return one day... even if it takes time.
