Ayham Zidan Remembers Yassin Baqush After Eight Years of His Passing

Syrian artist Ayham Zidan commemorated the death of his late colleague Yassin Baqush, eight years after his passing.

Ayham Zidan wrote on his personal Facebook page: "Yassin Baqush... your life's train stopped in a grim time. Few have realized the harshness of your death. I know that life did not treat you well, but what saddens me is that we also did not honor your death. Many march in your farewell amid their political conflicts, forgetting the shock of losing an artist who shared many years of our lives and was a guest who brought with him seasons of joy and happiness."

He concluded with: "Rest in peace in your kingdom, for your death is a witness to the horrors of this crazy war. Allow me to inscribe on your gravestone: here lies a clown who was greatly let down by life, and the joys of the stage did not ease the tragedy of departure. Here lies Yassin who dreamed of dying on stage but perished from a shell in his car. Oh, the cruelty of humans and the ugliness of the world... Farewell, and we will continue to remember you amidst the never-ending turmoil of death."

Yassin Baqush passed away on February 24, 2013, when his car was hit by an RPG shell while he was driving through the Al-Assali neighborhood in the Yarmouk camp, where he resided in Damascus. The locals managed to retrieve his body from the vehicle, which had been completely burned. Throughout his career, Baqush presented many comedic and historical works and was famous for his roles alongside artist Dureid Lahham as Yassin, a character representing a simple man. He was also known for his beloved character "Yasino" in series with artists Dureid Lahham and Nihad Qala'i, such as (Sah Annawm and Malh wa Sukkar), in addition to several cinematic films.
