Expo 2020 Dubai Supports Job Market in the UAE

A study conducted by "Global Data," a global data platform based in the UK, revealed that the number of job vacancies in the UAE job market increased by 148% from July 2020 to the end of July 2021, largely driven by preparations for hosting "Expo 2020 Dubai" in October.

**Employment Activity**

"Global Data" added in the study, which "Emirates Today" obtained a copy of, that the UAE has boosted employment activities across various industrial sectors, noting that most of this activity is concentrated in the travel and tourism sector, primarily from global hotel chains and airline operators. The report indicated that job postings saw a continuous increase since January 2021, rising significantly in June and July 2021, according to the company's job analytics database.

**Accor Hospitality**

According to the data tracked between July 2020 and July 2021, "Accor Hospitality" topped job advertisements supported by events for "Expo 2020 Dubai," being one of several companies that started recruiting in preparation for this global event. The data shows that "Accor Hospitality" listed over 15% of the total job vacancies in the UAE between July 2020 and July 2021. The new appointments are expected to facilitate operations in eight hotels that the company is set to open in 2021, one of which is near the Dubai World Trade Center.

**Marriott International**

"Global Data" further stated that "Marriott International," one of the major hospitality companies, is accelerating its job openings, indicating that 36 jobs were advertised in 2020, and over 200 in 2021. The company is recruiting in various cities such as Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Al Ain, and Sharjah. It noted that around 70% of the total jobs advertised between 2020 and 2021 are based in Dubai.

**Airlines**

According to the study, airlines like "Emirates Group" and "Wizz Air" are increasing their hiring rates, mentioning that "Emirates" is seeking to provide customer service solutions while actively marketing tickets for "Expo 2020 Dubai" events and related products. Meanwhile, "Wizz Air" has partnered with Abu Dhabi Development Holding to operate a low-cost airline in early 2021, and since January 2021, it has listed around 250 jobs in the UAE market.

**Growing Demand**

Ajay Thalori, a business analyst at "Global Data," stated that "Expo 2020 Dubai," which will take place in Dubai in October 2021, is expected to attract more than 25 million visitors. He also pointed out that the country is likely to host the Indian Premier League cricket event in September 2021. These two major events, along with the recovering economy, have stimulated hiring activity among major hospitality companies to meet the increasing demand.

Thalori noted, "Major hospitality companies, such as Hilton Worldwide, InterContinental Hotels Group, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and Radisson Hotels, have ramped up hiring in the UAE." He added, "The UAE has become a leading destination for hosting international events in recent years, and the country will host 'Expo 2020 Dubai', which could positively impact employment activity in the country over the six-month event."

**Construction and Software**

"Global Data" mentioned that interestingly, construction and software companies are also listing jobs to maximize benefits from "Expo 2020 Dubai." It highlighted that "SAP" is recruiting interns and temporary contract roles in preparation for the international exhibition, being the first official partner of "Expo 2020 Dubai" under the "Premier Partner" category, supporting the execution of personalized experiences for millions of visitors worldwide. The report also cited "Siemens AG," which is digitizing the infrastructure at the "Expo 2020 Dubai" site and hiring significant numbers in the UAE market, including interns.
