The media office of the caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued the following statement: Since the announcement by the caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati last Friday regarding the withdrawal of the file related to electricity by Minister of Energy and Water Walid Fayyad from the Cabinet session, the Minister of Energy has been attempting to cover for his actions with statements and positions that have not succeeded in convincing public opinion of the correctness of his stance, especially since he himself spoke before ministers about the true reasons for withdrawing the file. So, does the minister dare to name who asked him to withdraw the file, and why?
Notably, in an attempt to cover up his action, the Minister of Energy today distributed a statement saying he "is not inclined to engage in the signing of consensual deals to purchase electricity at high prices but rather to rely on the proper legal methods that allow competition for everyone."
The question that the minister must answer clearly and without evasion is: "Did someone ask him to complete a consensual electricity purchase deal? Did anyone tell him to accept a consensual purchase deal?"
Minister, stop spreading dust that does not cover what you have done, and return to what you previously informed the Prime Minister’s team last Saturday, that you would resume discussions with the Prime Minister regarding the two files, in hopes that the obstacles would cease following your actions.
The Prime Minister has a priority like all citizens, which is to secure electricity, rather than entering into futile debates.
This was a much-needed clarification.
