Moving Message from a Famous Egyptian Media Figure After Being Diagnosed with Cancer

Egyptian media personality Asmaa Mustafa sent an emotional message to her audience via her Facebook account after being diagnosed with cancer. In her message, she expressed, "I am a bit surprised by the excessive expectations because, of course, no one can deny that morality and good manners dictate that we consider the feelings of others, appreciate their circumstances, and stand by them."

She continued, "Don't blame anyone for not being sad about the loss of a close person or for choosing to console their family and continuing their life. No one does that, and this doesn't mean that there is no affection or love or appreciation; it’s just the way of the world. People get busy with their lives and look for happiness; no one likes misery."

She added, "No one feels or shares your burdens except your family, who live with you under the same roof, sharing your daily pain. Beyond that, it's natural for everyone to be preoccupied with their own life; they won’t be sitting every day asking about you or coming to comfort you. Don’t blame anyone and leave humanity to its Creator. Do not ask anyone to stop their life for someone else, and don’t be upset about it. Those who sincerely care about you are to be appreciated, and those who ask from afar deserve thanks, while those who do not inquire should also be appreciated. Personally, I never feel upset or blame anyone; that's a blessing."

At the end of her message, she stated, "Let people enjoy themselves; no one these days will seek to be miserable or drag their sadness with you, nor will anyone carry the burdens of others for a lifetime. May God make everyone happy and ease the burdens and sorrows of each person; God knows the condition of His servants and is the only one who can lift distress, worry, and sadness."

Asmaa Mustafa had announced her cancer diagnosis last April via her Facebook account, warning the public to avoid taking painkillers without medical supervision. She revealed the reason for her absence recently, saying, "I apologize for my long absence and not responding, which was beyond my control for several months. I didn’t know how to respond or what to say to most people; this was for my mother and family until they could grasp the situation. Once they understood and accepted it, I no longer cared."

She continued, "I am just like many others who are battling this terrible disease; the name is hard, but I'm one of them, trying and fighting, and God is generous... Indeed, the journey is still long, and recovery is in God’s hands alone. All we can do is take the proper measures and be content with God’s decree and ask for gentleness in it."

She clarified, "I don’t want anyone to be upset; I just need prayers because I believe they change fate… I have made good progress on my treatment, thank God, and there are still more steps to take. May God make it easy, I'm waiting for the surgery date, which is why my absence will be prolonged… Again, please no one feel upset, just pray."
