Mona Wasef: I Entered Art for Financial Gain

The esteemed Syrian actress Mona Wasef stated that she entered the field of art initially for the financial rewards, which were considered good in the 1960s.

In her interview with "Sham FM," the Syrian actress expressed her surprise at the love she receives from her audience, affirming her happiness with this love and everything she has achieved today. Wasef revealed that her husband was an officer and the director of a military theater, and she acquired from him the traits of toughness and military characteristics. She added playfully that the principle of interaction between her and her husband was “execute first, then object.”

Wasef explained that she finds herself significant in the work she has produced, adding that her social culture played a major role in her self-confidence and establishing her presence. She also mentioned that she harbors a substantial amount of sadness and sorrow within herself, noting that this reservoir has helped her embody and master sad roles.

The actress justified her unsuccessful works by stating, “When I first started, I created failed works that I am not ashamed of; failure provides a lesson.”

In another context, Wasef expressed that she does not contemplate emigrating from Damascus for any reason, highlighting that she is a follower of hope, quoting, “My country, even if it wrongs me, is dear to me.”

Wasef also expressed her admiration for the Syrian actress Rana Al-Abed for mimicking her, referring to a video that circulated on social media, and humorously mentioned that she would kiss her instead of punishing her when she sees her.

Regarding her favorite stars of Syrian drama, Wasef chose both Suleiman Fawakhri and Salwa Taima, referring to them as her daughters. Among the youth category, she selected the Syrian actor Taim Hassan.
