Surprise in Mandatory Parliamentary Consultations...

A parliamentary source has indicated that after the formation of parliamentary committees next Tuesday, the date for the mandatory parliamentary consultations to appoint a Prime Minister will not be delayed, likely falling on Thursday. However, the surprise will be in the boycott. In a conversation with "Akhbar Al-Yawm" agency, the source explained that some blocs are seriously considering boycotting these consultations for various reasons.

The ongoing discussions are based on addressing the governmental file from the perspective of avoiding mistakes made during the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, especially by the "independents" and parties aligned on a single line with a common goal.

When asked why boycott instead of unifying the stance, the source responded: despite the "meager number"—with President Nabih Berri winning by 65 votes, a significant drop from his previous unanimous victories in the last six rounds—nothing prevents a repeat of the scene from the starry square in Baabda, where a president can be appointed with a small number of votes.

Thus, the source mentioned that the justifications for any boycotting MPs—if a boycott occurs—will range from participating will not change anything, and hence the prevailing situation for years will not change unless the appointment and formation processes adhere to principles and standards, to disapproval of the proposed names.

Conversely, the source noted that the Shiite duo and the Free Patriotic Movement are attempting to "entrap" the MPs into replicating the current prevailing situation. This has begun to appear through President Michel Aoun’s and Hezbollah’s haste to form a government, with an agreement nearly finalized between them and President Najib Mikati to reappoint him, thus replicating his current government.

From this perspective, the source stated: the "majority" might find itself frustrated with the formation process! This "frustration" could be a new and different approach to the previous status quo, noting that the "Lebanese Forces" hinted at a potential non-participation, as they refuse to remain within the same atmosphere, with Dr. Samir Geagea announcing that his bloc "will not vote for Mikati or any candidate supported by Hezbollah and will not participate in any national unity government."

The source concluded: the continuation of Mikati in his position, along with the participation of the Free Patriotic Movement, the Amal Movement, and Hezbollah in a government under various names ranging from national unity to techno-political to technocratic, is merely stagnation that does not lead to escaping the crisis but rather deepens it!
