American administrator Samantha Power arrived in Lebanon today for a three-day visit focused on providing support to the Lebanese people, especially those affected by the economic and humanitarian crisis. More than half of Lebanese households are in need of some form of food assistance, a situation exacerbated by Putin's war against Ukraine, which also negatively impacts millions of refugees that Lebanon continues to host. During her visit, the official will pressure the Lebanese government and business leaders to implement urgent reforms and policies. She will also meet with those working to combat corruption and strengthen the private sector. Additionally, she will meet with Lebanese and Syrian students, refugees, and Syrian residents from Lebanese host communities to convey the ongoing support of the United States. She will visit projects conducted by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) aimed at building sustainable food systems and renewable energy projects to provide drinking water to needy communities while highlighting the agency's efforts to address the impacts of climate change before traveling to Sharm El Sheikh for COP27.
