The Polisario Front has warned the organizers of the "Africa Eco Race" for cars about the consequences of the race passing through the Sahrawi territories, declaring the entire region a "war zone." The race organizers had announced that the 2022 edition, scheduled from October 15 to 30, would cross the disputed territory of Western Sahara. According to a statement broadcast by the Algerian news agency, "the Sahrawi Republic urged the race organizers not to violate international legitimacy by crossing Sahrawi national territory." It is noteworthy that Western Sahara is a former Spanish colony considered by the United Nations as a "non-self-governing territory," and it has been a point of contention between Morocco and the Polisario Front, which is supported by Algeria, for decades.
