Russia Urges Parties in Yemen Conflict to Extend Truce

The Russian embassy in Yemen expressed Russia's concern over the lack of progress in extending the truce, which is set to expire today, Sunday, urging the conflicting parties to intensify their efforts in this regard. A statement issued by the embassy and published on its Twitter page stated: "As a permanent member of the Security Council, Russia expresses its concern over the lack of progress in ensuring the agreement on extending the truce before its expiration on October 2. We call on the parties to the conflict to activate their dialogue with the special UN envoy to reach an agreement on extending the truce."

The statement added that the Charge d'Affaires at the Russian embassy in Yemen, Yevgeny Koudrov, "confirmed support for the efforts of the special UN envoy," pointing to "the noticeable benefits that the truce has brought to Yemenis and regional security alike," and urged the parties not to squander the results. He also emphasized the absence of any military solution to the conflict in Yemen, stating that extending the truce aims to achieve a comprehensive political settlement in Yemen through negotiations.
