The German Ministry of Economy announced today, Monday, that Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck arrived in Ukraine on a surprise visit, which is his first since the outbreak of war. A spokesperson for the ministry confirmed that Habeck, who also serves as the Minister of Economy, arrived in Kyiv early on Monday.
The news magazine "Spiegel" reported that the agenda includes discussing the reconstruction of Ukraine, which has been at war with Russia since Moscow's invasion in February 2022, as well as cooperation in the energy sector. Following initial criticism for hesitating to supply Ukraine with heavy weapons, Germany has become one of the country's main military supporters, recently providing Kyiv with eighteen Leopard 2 battle tanks, considered to be among the most powerful weapons in the West's arsenal.
