A Saudi official confirmed today that China has influence over Iran, and if the agreement made with the Kingdom in Beijing is not adhered to, Tehran will find it difficult to explain that. He emphasized that resuming diplomatic relations with Iran "does not mean we are allies." The official, who requested anonymity, stated that China is in a unique position because of its exceptional relationships with both Iran and Saudi Arabia. He added that the most difficult issues discussed with Iran were Yemen, media, and China's role, noting that the Iranian nuclear agreement was not on the table during discussions in Beijing. Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed last Friday to restore relations after years of hostility, following talks in China.
