Tunisian President Appoints New Ambassador to Syria

Tunisian President Kais Saied has appointed Mohamed Mehdhibi as the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Tunisian Republic to the Syrian Arab Republic on Thursday. This move is part of the latest Arab efforts to end Syria's regional isolation. Tunisia had severed diplomatic relations with Syria nearly ten years ago in protest against Assad's repressive campaign against pro-democracy demonstrations in 2011, which escalated into a civil war that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians and the displacement of millions.
