Sergio Pérez, the driver for Red Bull, secured pole position for the Miami Grand Prix in the Formula 1 World Championship on Saturday. Luck was on the side of the Mexican driver, as Charles Leclerc from Ferrari caused the third qualifying session to end prematurely.
World champion Max Verstappen made an error on his lap, forcing the Red Bull driver to abandon his timed run and return to the pits for one last attempt. However, Leclerc from Monaco lost control of his car and crashed into the wall just 96 seconds before the session ended.
The stewards decided to stop the third qualifying session and not complete it. Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin claimed second place ahead of Carlos Sainz from Ferrari. Kevin Magnussen secured fourth place with Haas, followed by Pierre Gasly from Alpine and George Russell from Mercedes.
Leclerc will start from seventh position alongside Esteban Ocon from Alpine, with Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas from Alfa Romeo behind them. One of the biggest surprises was Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes failing to reach the final qualifying session, as he will start from thirteenth position.
