One of the endangered monk seals swam to a beach in Jaffa. This type of seal prefers relatively cold beach caves in the Greek and Turkish islands and is rarely seen at Eastern Mediterranean shores. The estimated population of Mediterranean monk seals worldwide ranges between 400 and 500 seals, placing them in the category of the rarest marine mammals.
