Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand announced that the Royal Canadian Air Force's CP-140 Aurora aircraft will be deployed in Japan to support the implementation of United Nations Security Council sanctions on North Korea. The Canadian government stated that the aircraft will monitor suspected maritime activities aimed at evading sanctions for approximately six weeks, particularly focusing on transfers of fuel and other goods prohibited by the Security Council from one vessel to another. North Korea has been under United Nations sanctions since 2006 due to its nuclear and missile programs.
