The caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdallah Bou Habib, requested Australia’s assistance in addressing the Syrian displaced persons crisis during a meeting with Australian Deputy Foreign Minister and Member of Parliament, Tim Watts. For his part, Watts expressed gratitude to Lebanon for "its close cooperation with Australia in areas of mutual interest."
