An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck the Boumerdes province, located 50 kilometers east of Algiers. The Algerian Center for Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics determined the epicenter of the quake to be 22 kilometers north of the Ras Janat area. No material or human losses have been reported, while the Boumerdes province previously experienced a devastating earthquake on May 21, 2003, which registered 6.8 on the Richter scale, resulting in the deaths and injuries of approximately 13,000 people and damaging or collapsing over a thousand buildings.
