The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Saturday, that Russia, China, and Iran have concluded tri-national naval exercises in the Arabian Sea, which included artillery fire on targets at sea and in the air. The exercises were conducted off the port of Chabahar in Iran, as Russian President Vladimir Putin prepares to host his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Moscow for a three-day visit starting on Monday. Russia continues to conduct military exercises with its partners, particularly China, despite the pressure on its armed forces due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has seen little significant progress since last summer. The Ministry of Defense stated that the Russian frigate Admiral Gorshkov and the Chinese destroyer Nanjing participated in the exercises held on Thursday and Friday. The Gorshkov, equipped with the latest generation of Russian hypersonic Zircon missiles, participated in joint naval drills last month with China and South Africa.
