Investigations into the 1992 incident involving former national team coach Gregg Berhalter and his wife outside a bar have confirmed the U.S. Soccer Federation's position in appointing him to coach the team, as there is no legal barrier to his hiring, for which he remains a candidate. The U.S. Federation's report stated, "Based on the facts we obtained during the investigation, our legal analysis led us to conclude that the 1992 incident does not prevent an employer from hiring Mr. Berhalter." It added that given the incident occurred nearly 31 years ago and considering the lack of information or any evidence contradicting witness accounts or indicating similar behavior after that incident, there is no basis to conclude that hiring Mr. Berhalter would create legal risks for any organization.
