The U.S. State Department confirmed today, Tuesday, that the United States continues to pressure for an extension of the ceasefire in Sudan, which includes coordination with regional and international partners to help form a committee to oversee negotiations. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel stated, "The United States aims to assist the warring parties in finding a path to a sustainable cessation of hostilities through its communication with the Sudanese army and civilian leaders." He added, "The State Department noted that if Americans in Sudan can reach Port Sudan and board a ferry to Jeddah, there are consular officials in Jeddah to assist them."
