The Israeli army carried out airstrikes on the Gaza Strip this evening, targeting sites for weapon manufacturing, military headquarters and gatherings, as well as a tunnel belonging to Hamas. Palestinian factions responded by launching approximately seventy rockets toward settlements surrounding Gaza. Hospitals in Gaza have not reported any injuries. Following this escalation, Hamas stated that the head of its political bureau, Ismail Haniya, is in contacts with Egypt and Qatar "to stop the Israeli aggression" on Gaza. The strikes followed a barrage of rockets fired toward Israel after the death of a Palestinian detainee and Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Khader Adnan, who was on a hunger strike in an Israeli prison.
