Biden Discusses Macron's Recent Visit to China

U.S. President Joe Biden discussed with French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday the latter's recent visit to China, during which he made statements that sparked widespread controversy, according to the White House. The U.S. presidency stated in a release that the two leaders "discussed Macron's recent visit to the People's Republic of China, their ongoing efforts to enhance prosperity, security, shared values, and the rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific region."

The statement added that they "reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait." Macron's office indicated that he and President Biden discussed topics including Ukraine, China, and Sudan. The Élysée Palace noted, "At a time when Ukraine remains a victim of Russian aggression, the two presidents exchanged views on recent developments on the ground, as well as the support being provided for the war effort in Ukraine. The leaders affirmed their commitment to continue support in the long term."
