Lebanese Basketball Federation President Akram Halabi revealed that he discussed with Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the Grand Serail the issue facing the Lebanese Basketball Federation regarding granting Lebanese citizenship to foreign player Omari Spellman. Halabi noted that there was significant responsiveness and interest from Prime Minister Mikati on this matter, and they consulted on frameworks and methods to resolve it positively.
Following the meeting, Halabi stated, "Hopefully, we can reach a solution to this matter away from political or sectarian disputes or issues that some people may have an interest in obstructing. However, the atmosphere is positive, and this matter requires time to ensure everyone continues to support it in order to give the Lebanese national team what it deserves. The team has given Lebanon a lot and spread hope and joy during this difficult time." Halabi expressed gratitude to Mikati and ministers Nasar, Al-Mawlawi, and Klass, saying, "The current phase requires solidarity and diligent work to achieve results." In response to a question about the time frame for reaching a solution, he announced, "The timeframe is not long."
