The semi-official Tasnim news agency in Iran announced today, Sunday, that at least four members of a road police patrol were killed in a "terrorist" attack in the city of Zahedan, Iran. Tasnim's report stated that "attackers ambushed a police vehicle today and opened fire on it." It noted that a judicial order had been issued to pursue the perpetrators of the attack. The identity and motives of those behind the attack remain unclear. Zahedan is the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province, which borders both Pakistan and Afghanistan. This province is one of the poorest in the country and serves as a major corridor for drug trafficking.
